Conspiracy of the Game by David Lash

Science challenges us to examine our beliefs.  Beliefs can comfort us, as well as smother our curiosity. At one time it was a common belief that the sun revolved around a six thousand year old flat earth.

The chessboard represents our territorial imperative. Borders, fences and walls do more to separate us than they do to create community and sharing.  We also construct barriers, figuratively speaking, to protect our beliefs from conflicting opinions.

The trap is an example of our intolerance and fear. The wolf to your right in the painting is staring at the animal that is unmatched in nature for its capacity for cruelty.

The wolf is a vibrant, integral part of nature that is neither angel nor devil. These are manmade concepts that have more to do with fairy tales than science.

The forest and the decaying fence represent "hope" for our species. The villain in this story is ignorance; ageless and relentless it breeds fear and intolerance.
